Ok I feel really stupid for asking this but I really do not know what it means.... I noticed websites like "GetAFreelancer" and "Elance" have something called "bid" where you bid on a job.

What the heck does bid mean? Do the freelancers acctually pay money to do the job or what?

I feel so silly asking this but I was trying to research what it might mean and I am getting nowhere.

Can someone please explain
